he's a puppy... part i & ii

So, I bragged about Linus last night.  I bragged that the only thing he had destroyed in the approximate 4 months he's lived with us was a flip flop.  He didn't even fully destroy it.  I still wear it.

I knocked on wood as I said it because I knew I was jinxing myself.  I was right...

Today, he decided to chew a chunk out of our new, wool crate and barrel rug as I was napping.  I am not laughing yet...  I called my mom to see if they wanted a third dog.  She said no.  Any takers?  (I'm only half-way kidding.)  He's cute, though destructive...

I'm really hoping for this puppy's sake that this is the only post I will have to write in this new series...

'tis the season.

Hello, friends. I realized tonight that I haven't blogged since this summer. I was looking for the post I wrote about 2 years ago, rather the post I thought I wrote. It was the post about how Lucy destroyed the Christmas tree while Joel and I were performing in the Christmas pageant at church. I can't find the post anywhere, meaning I probably never wrote it. Joel and I were debating whether it was 2008 or 2009. I'm pretty sure I'm right; it was 2009. In all reality, we will probably never know.

We started decorating for Christmas last night. My love for decorating for Christmas is two-fold. I love reflecting on the story of my Savior, coming into this world as a tiny babe. I also love reflecting on memories that each decoration or piece brings with it. As we unpacked boxes, we listened to and watched Andrew Peterson's "Behold the Lamb of God" concert twice, followed by Shane and Shane's, "Glory in the Highest" album.

My nativity scene is my favorite Christmas piece. I love reflecting on the special night of our Savior's birth. As I unpacked each individual piece of my nativity scene, the nativity story songs playing in the background almost matched up perfectly. It's so awesome to think about the perspectives and thoughts of the shepherds and wisemen (a while later), Mary, and Joseph. The shepherds are my favorite. I love to think about what must have been going through their minds when they heard the great news that the Messiah was here in flesh. It makes my heart warm. In addition to that, unpacking my nativity scene brings great memories of family. Joel's mom, Jan, has given me each piece of the set over the past 4 or 5 Christmases. I treasure it dearly.

We then arranged the mantle. I unpacked all of my Santa Clauses from my Uncle Marvin and Aunt Carol. That was our yearly gift growing up. Each one is unique and pretty. We also hung our stockings. They aren't so meaningful yet; they're just kinda fun. We just bought Lucy and Linus a new stocking at Hobby Lobby last week. Don't worry, the camouflage will *soon* be covered up with precious fabric. I promise I will do it... in all my spare time... [On a side note, it was really interesting finding a new place for everything this year. Our mantle is bigger, so it holds more. If you are confused, we moved! Oh, and we also got another puppy. See? It's been far too long since I last wrote...]

We then unpacked the random decor--the wall hangings, the garland, the little trees. I am thrilled that the garland from the old house fit our new staircase perfectly.

Today, I hung the wonderful advent tree that my mom (and Rose, my parents' next door neighbor) made. We had one growing up, and she made one for each of the daughters back in 2004. I will post a picture when all of the nifty ornaments are on it. We currently have Baby Jesus, Bella, and a candycane. :) [a long side-note that you should only read if you want to make fun of me in your head: I just found a "song" I wrote from my freshman year of college... It's supposed to be to the tune of "the 12 days Christmas", 'supposed to' being the key words.

~on the TRUE day of christmas my true love (God) gave to me..... Jesus in a manger; a star shining brightly; an almost made husky; a heart full of glitter; a red, felt mitten; santa with two buttons; a nicely lit-up tree; a freezing cold snowflake; A SHIIIIINY LIGHTBULLLLLLLLLB...; a sparkly wrapped present; a small gingerbread house; a yummy candycane; some green leaves of holly; "ding dong ding dong, that is its song"; blitzen the reindeer; a big, red stocking; a striped ornament; Orlando in an elf hat; Slushy the snowman; a holy, praying angel; A BIIIIG CHOOO CHOOO TRAAAAAAAIN... the GREAT state of Texas; one frosted cookie; a gingerbread man;and a puppy named bella running on the TREEEEEEEEEEE!~... wow. The brain of an 18 year old...

Despite my dorky nature, the advent tree rocks.

Joel was actually busy decorating yesterday afternoon, before I got home. This is what I came home to! (I helped him by adding the wreath and snowman. After looking at the snowman picture, I kind of want to add a comma after friends. See? dork.)

If you've made it this far into the post, (kudos) you might be wondering why I haven't yet posted pictures of our tree. I wanted this post to come full circle. Here is our beautimous tree. Please notice the nakedness on the bottom quarter. That was on purpose. I don't have a fancy "she's a puppy...part 5,921" post to link back to, because I don't think I ever wrote one back in 2009. I wish I could find the pictures. There was a trail of ornaments from the front door, all the way down the hall to the tree. I *probably* wanted to kill her. However, today, as we unpacked the ornaments boxes, we found a remnant of that night and had a good laugh. Memories. I love this dog. I'm glad we spared her life that night. ;) I hope you can appreciate the picture as much as we appreciate the ornament and memory.
Oh, and in case you are wondering, she is an excellent big sister. I have a suspicion that there might be a new series starting... It might be called, "he's a puppy..."
until next time.
