i'm thankful for...

...my in-laws.

Jan and Jimmy are quite the in-laws. They love Joel and me more than I will ever understand. They are caring and gentle-hearted. They are also quite handy. Joel's dad made the doors to our entertainment center and matched the Ikea black-brown stain to a T. He has also helped teach Joel a lot of little handy-man projects around the house. He even knew how to fix the pipe when Joel ran over it with the lawnmower. I think his handiness has worn off on Joel.

Jan is very creative and thoughtful. She always has fun holiday decorations and holiday goody bags, filled with delicious candy for us. She writes encouraging birthday cards. She gives good hugs and smiles. She also is a shorts-saver.

Cycling shorts are NOT cheap. A few weekends ago, Joel and I did our cycling safety course. We were running a little late, and I rushed to put on my cycling shorts. One of my pet-peeves occurred. The string fell into the string hole. I HATE it when that happens. To me, it makes shorts almost unwearable. My cycling shorts' string wraps all the way around and criss-crosses somewhere to help the strings pull tight in a different way. I am not a very good describer. Anyway, I was distraught. I put on a different pair, deeming the string-missing pair unwearable. Zoom forward to this weekend. Joel and I both tried forever to get the stupid string back through the hole. Having only one pair of cycling shorts when trying to train for a 180-mile bike ride is not such a good thing. Joel called his mom to see if she could fix them. She said she would try.

Last night, she was at praise band practice to watch and to hand-deliver me something special. I'm sure you guessed what it was by now. TWO STRINGS!

Thank you for fixing my shorts, Jan! We love you and Jimmy so much. We are both very thankful for your love and support in our marriage and in life.
