so, i am somewhat new to the whole blogging world. i used to blog on xanga but never diligently. my husband has been encouraging me to start blogging regularly, and i have also been inspired by the whittakers' blogs (<--2 links there). thus, i am going to give this a shot. hello, blogging world. my hope for this blog is to be myself and to be real despite what people may say or think as a result of it.
now, as for the silent "b" in kimb... my name is kimberly. growing up, i used to only let people call me kimberly because that is my name (with the exception of the kemps, who called me kim and berly... maybe he meant burly... that is another story.) i hated the way "kim" looked. no offense to all of the kims out there in the blog-o-sphere; it's just a me thing. anyway, i began my venture into sports world in middle school. since three syllable names are not easily screamed on the basketball court, kim became my name whether i liked it or not. while expressing my frustrations to my loving and oh so intelligent/witty oldest sister, she told me i should spell kim with a "b". "many words have silent b's, kimberly... like thumb and lamb," said she. her secret ploy to tag me for life worked. thus, as a very naive and trusting 7th grader, i became kimb. much to my dismay, as i was later sharing why i spelled kimb with a "b" with my 7th grade english teacher, she pointed out that dumb was also spelled with a silent "b"... thanks julia. needless to say, the name stuck and i love/embrace it now. people never forget it once they know how i spell it. most feel the need to call me "kimb with a b" or "kimba". some just call me kimb. most of my old friends still call me kimberly, except the kemps who still call me kim and berly/burly.
here is a list of other silent "b" words. my new favorite is plumber. :)
love.

Welcome to the blogospere! You're on my Google Reader, so I guess you're official.
You're forgetting words like "boy, "burlap," and "lead." Duh.
My favorite words with a silent B are "plumber's helperb".
