Ike was nasty, but he wasn't too nasty to our neighborhood. We lost a couple roof shingles and some paint above our back door. Our two little baby trees survived, though! That made me happy. They lost quite a few leaves, but they are still standing upright.
One of my classmates, Maggie, stayed with us during the whole ordeal. Renata was going to, but she headed up to College Station early Friday morning. Maggie is a fun chick.
During Friday night's storm, we lost power at about 2 AM. (No power brings back some fun memories from Nigeria.) The wind was REALLY intense, obviously I guess. Our walls and floors were shaking. It was a bit scary. Lucy had to pee and poo at about 6, and the storm was still slightly intense. We let her out, and she squatted. She peed for about a full minute while her ears were flapping crazily in the wind. It was hilarious and adorable.
We tried to eat a lot of perishables for breakfast. We had scrambled eggs, IKE bagels, cottage cheese, and chocolate milk... mmm. IKE bagels are toasted bagels with cream cheese and sliced deli turkey meat. They weren't too bad, but I wouldn't probably eat them under normal circumstances... Later, we took the rest of our perishables to Nanni and PaTray's huge freezer. They never lost power... lucky ducks. My parents later came to our house to shower because their water pressure was weak. In the meantime, I dug up a lot of weeds in our future back flowerbed. Joel planted our fig bush! YAY! I am sore. It was a good workout. When it got dark, we played scrabble by lantern light and candlelight with Maggie, and then headed to bed with still no power.
We just got power and internet back, according to my fabulous husband. I am at his parents' house using their internet. We are about to eat some yummy lunch and then head back here later for dinner. I am stoked because I also just found out that classes got canceled for tomorrow! Since almost no studying got done this weekend, tomorrow will be a full day of Anatomy! woot.
Thanks for all of your prayers and concern. We are all alive and well. We love you all very much! I will post a few pictures later.
