so long, starbucks

i am currently enjoying my regular at the division stumptown.  it makes me smile.  i am going to be sad when we have to leave...
julia, joel, and i did a coffee tasting yesterday at stumptown.

who knew so much flavor could be in so many different coffees?  i learned something interesting today.  when people dark roast coffee beans, it masks the true flavor of the bean.  it can also hide imperfections, musk, dirtiness, and flaws in the beans.  thus, companies can get mediocre beans and make them still taste decent by dark roasting them.  stumptown doesn't dark roast their coffee because they get the highest quality of beans that they can for their customers.  if they were to dark roast their beans, it would hide their excellent quality.  thus, the vast majority of their beans are a medium roast and very tasty.  from personal working experience, starbucks only has dark roasted coffee... eww.  i never really thought that was too disgusting until knowing what i do now.  i think i dislike starbucks even more now.  i've been giving them too many chances.  they screw up my drinks 90% of the time.  they aren't the friendliest of people sometimes.  i think i have just had enough.  i have tasted excellence, and i can't go back.  so long starbucks.  you paid my wages for 4 months once upon a time.  thanks, but so long.

on top of that, stumptown is content with being who they are.  their primary concerns aren't about growing and expanding (even though they're opening a cafe or two in nyc).  they just want to deliver quality product and make customers happy.  here's one to sticking it to the man.  starbucks--as my brother-in-law has stated in similar words, the vivanno drink is alright, but walking into a cafe and smelling bananas is not the most pleasant experience.  stop trying so hard.  if i want a smoothie, i'll go to smoothie king and pay the same price for a smoothie that's twice as big...

I also appreciate how Stumptown pays a fair price for their coffee so that the people who grow it can earn a good living.
